The Mitodo Lifetime Foam Warranty comes down to one promise: if the foam in your Mitodo Kumo bed or Mitodo Sora stairs ever sags, we send you a replacement foam insert, for the life of the product. There is no number of years to count down. This article explains why the warranty is written that way, what "sag" means in practice, how to check your own bed, and what to do if you think yours has gone. The full terms are on our warranty page.
What the warranty says, and what it covers
The warranty is about the foam. Specifically, it covers the foam inside the Mitodo Kumo Orthopaedic Dog & Cat Bed and the Sora Pet Stairs, and the shredded-foam filling in the Kumo's bolsters. It counts as a sag when:
- The base foam (Kumo bed or Sora stairs) has a permanent dip deeper than 2.5 cm that is still there after the product has been left unused for 24 hours.
- The Kumo's bolsters have flattened for good and no longer hold their shape after you fluff them.
If we approve your claim, we send you a replacement foam insert (or new bolster filling) free of charge; you just pay delivery. It applies for the life of the product, which is our way of saying we are not going to argue about whether year three counts.
We keep it narrow on purpose. Foam is the part of a bed that fails invisibly and matters most. A cover can be washed or swapped, a liner can be wiped down, but when the foam goes, the bed stops doing its one job, and most owners do not notice until the dog has quietly moved back to the tiles. So that is the part we stand behind for life.
The warranty covers the foam, not the fabric. Covers are made to be unzipped, washed and swapped. It does not cover:
- Covers, zips and the inner lining, which wear with normal use
- Damage from chewing, digging or scratching
- Damage from liquids, urine or other accidents, or from washing the foam
- Misuse, or using the bed or stairs for anything other than your pet
- Memory foam softening a little over time, which is normal, and small changes in feel that are not a measurable sag
Why foam sags in the first place
Foam is made of millions of tiny cells. Each time a dog lies on it, the cells compress, and each time the dog gets up, they spring back. Cheaper, low-density foam has less material in each cell wall, so over time it tires and stops springing back fully. The foam itself does not disappear; it just loses the ability to recover, and a dent forms exactly where the dog's hips land. Heat and humidity do not help, and a Singapore flat has plenty of both.
High-density foam has more material packed into every cell, so it keeps springing back for far longer. That is the whole difference between a bed that is still supportive after years and a bed that is a pancake by Chinese New Year. It is also why we can offer a lifetime warranty without losing sleep: we chose foam we expect to hold its shape.
How to check your bed for sag at home
Sag is easy to miss under a cover, because the fabric smooths it over. Once a month, do this:
- Take the dog off the bed and leave it empty for 24 hours, so any temporary compression has time to recover.
- Run your palm firmly across the sleeping area from one bolster to the other. You are feeling for a hollow where the dog usually lies, compared with the edges.
- Press the centre with your fist and let go. Good foam pushes back and levels out within a few seconds.
- Unzip the cover and look at the foam itself. A healthy block is flat and even. A sagging one shows a dip. Foam can also turn a little yellow over time from air and light; that is normal and does not mean it has sagged.
The distinction that matters is between compression that recovers and compression that does not. A warm dent that fades when the dog gets up is memory foam doing its job. A dent that is still deeper than 2.5 cm after the bed has sat empty for 24 hours is sag. To check, lay a straight edge, such as a broom handle or ruler, across the dip and measure down to the lowest point. Note that a new Mitodo Kumo arrives vacuum-compressed and needs up to 72 hours to fully rise, so give it those three days before you judge it.
What to do if you think your foam has sagged
Making a claim takes three steps:
- Take the cover off and let the foam sit unused for 24 hours.
- Lay a straight edge (a broom handle or ruler works) across the dip and take a photo with a ruler showing how deep it is. For the bolsters, a photo of the flattened part is enough.
- Send the photos and your order number through our contact page. You can also email hello@mitodo.com.sg, send us an Instagram DM or a WhatsApp message.
If we approve your claim, we send you a replacement foam insert free of charge. You just pay a delivery fee, which we confirm when we approve the claim. Keep your cover, pop the new foam in, and you are done. The warranty is for the person who bought the bed or stairs, for the lifetime of the product, with proof of purchase from mitodo.com.sg. It comes on top of your legal rights as a consumer and does not take any of them away. The full terms are on our warranty page.
We would rather look at a bed that turns out to be fine than have you put up with one that is not. Our own dogs sleep on these beds, so we take a sagging one personally.
What the warranty says about how we build
A warranty like this only makes sense if the product is built to earn it, so here is what is under the cover of every Kumo. The support layer is high-density foam, chosen to hold its shape under dogs up to 45 kg rather than flatten. On top of it is a cooling memory gel foam layer that moulds to the dog and cushions hips, shoulders and elbows. Both foam layers are CertiPUR-US® certified, which means the foam is made without ozone depleters, PBDE, TDCPP or TCEP flame retardants, mercury, lead and other heavy metals, formaldehyde or regulated phthalates, and was tested for low VOC emissions. We did not pick certified foam for the warranty; we picked it because our dogs sleep on it. The warranty is just the consequence.
The Sora Pet Stairs use the same kind of high-density foam, which is why each step stays firm underfoot instead of sinking. Same foam, same reason, and the same warranty: if a Sora step ever sags more than 2.5 cm, we send you replacement foam, for the life of the product.
What the warranty does not change
The foam promise does not mean the bed is maintenance-free, and a few habits make the whole thing last longer.
- Wash the cover, not the foam. The OEKO-TEX® microsuede cover zips off along a hidden zipper and goes in the machine on a cold, gentle cycle. The foam never goes in the wash. Spot clean the water-resistant liner with a damp cloth.
- Let everything dry fully before zipping it back on. Humidity is the enemy of foam, and a damp liner zipped onto foam in a Singapore flat is asking for smell.
- Keep it out of direct afternoon sun. A bed baking by the window every day gets hot and ages faster, foam or not.
- Buy the right size. A 20 kg dog on a Small bed is more than that size is meant for. Our size guide takes two minutes.
- Keep a spare cover. Spare Kumo covers are S$60 to S$90 depending on size, and the foam outlives fabric, so a second cover means the bed stays in service while one is in the wash.
Why we wrote it this way
We wrote our warranty to be simple to understand, because the people buying a Kumo are often buying for an older dog and do not want to read pages of terms. The bed costs S$159 to S$259, which is real money, and the honest reason it costs that is the foam. A lifetime promise on that foam is how we show the money went where we say it did. Kumo is designed in Singapore and tested daily by our own pawbies, Waffle, Mantou and Brownie, and they have not found the sag yet.
If you already own a Kumo, take the cover off this weekend, run your hand across the foam and look. If it is flat and even, zip it back up and forget about it for another month. If it is not, send us a photo.
