Small Batch Heart Treats have one ingredient: freeze-dried heart from humanely raised animals. Nothing else goes in the bag.

Why we love it
  • One ingredient, nothing to decode. Each bag is a single protein, which makes it an easy choice for pets with food sensitivities or on a limited-ingredient diet.
  • Naturally rich in taurine. Heart is a natural source of taurine, plus iron, zinc and B vitamins. Taurine supports heart and eye health, and it's especially important for cats.
  • High in protein, high in value. Dogs and cats go wild for them, which makes them great for training.
  • Easy to break into tiny pieces. One treat can become several rewards, so a bag goes a long way.
  • Freeze-dried, not cooked. Gentle freeze-drying keeps the nutrients and flavour in.
  • Nothing artificial. No grains, fillers, preservatives or synthetic additives.
The flavours
  • Chicken: free-range, humanely raised chicken hearts.
  • Turkey: the leanest of the five, from humanely raised turkey.
  • Lamb: pasture-raised lamb, one of the richer flavours.
  • Pork: crate-free pork, a less common protein that's handy for rotating flavours.
  • Beef: grass-fed beef, rich and very popular with picky eaters.

Each flavour's back-of-pack photo in the gallery shows the exact ingredients and guaranteed analysis for the bags we stock.

Where it comes from
  • They choose every ingredient themselves. Many brands leave sourcing to a contract manufacturer. Small Batch works directly with its farms and suppliers, and never buys anonymous commodity meat.
  • Welfare comes first. Animals are raised with space to roam, forage and socialise, never in factory farms or feedlots. Every farm partner holds welfare certifications and is audited in person by the Small Batch team.
  • No added hormones or antibiotics in any of the meat.
  • Beef and lamb hearts are from animals pasture-raised and grass-fed in New Zealand, never confined to feedlots.
  • Chicken hearts are from USDA free-range chickens on US farms.
  • Turkey hearts are from humanely raised, GAP-rated US farms.
  • Pork hearts are from crate-free pigs on multigenerational US family farms.
How to serve
  • Give whole, or break into small pieces for training.
  • Crumble over a meal as a tasty topper.
  • These are treats, not a complete meal. A good rule of thumb is to keep treats to about 10% of your pet's daily food.
  • Keep the bag sealed and store it somewhere cool and dry.
About Small Batch

It started with Blue, a rescue cat with special dietary needs that store-bought food couldn't meet. In 2004, in their San Francisco flat, the founders began cooking small, fresh batches for Blue with the same local, sustainable meat and produce they bought for themselves. Blue thrived.

In 2005 it became a tiny delivery service for friends and neighbours, working with small family farms and inspired by San Francisco's slow-food values. In 2014 the family moved Small Batch to Aumsville, Oregon, to be closer to its farms, and launched its freeze-dried range. It celebrated 20 years in 2025 and is still family-run.

The name is the promise: food is made in small, carefully controlled runs so quality and freshness can be checked every time, in USDA-inspected facilities.
